A Cup of Coffee

A group of alumni, highly established in their careers, got together to visit their old University of Notre Dame lecturer. Conversation soon turned into complaints about stress in work and life.

Offering his guests coffee, the lecturer went to the kitchen and returned with a large pot of coffee and an assortment of cups? porcelain, plastic, glass, some plain-looking and some expensive and exquisite, telling them to help themselves to hot coffee.

When all the students had a cup of coffee in hand, the lecturer said: "If you noticed, all the nice-looking, expensive cups were taken up, leaving behind the plain and cheap ones. While it is but normal for you to want only the best for yourselves, that is the source of your problems and stress. What all of you really wanted was coffee, not the cup, but you consciously went for the better cups and are eyeing each other's cups."

"Now, if Life is coffee, then the jobs, money and position in society are the cups. They are just tools to hold and contain Life, but the quality of Life doesn't change."

"Sometimes, by concentrating only on the cup, we fail to enjoy the coffee in it."

Discrimination

I was helping my sister to find a job. So after so many years of not browsing jobsdb, jobstreet, phil-job and other interactive recruitment network, I logged on yesterday. And I was very shocked at the same time disappointed with what was listed in most of the qualifications! There are some companies who preferred single, male only, age not more than this, those who do not have a child or should be a graduate of this school. It's DISCRIMINATION! Filipinos being discriminated in their own country?! How cruel! What a shame! Bakit sila maglalagay ng ganung qualifications samantalang kung babasahin mo naman ang job description, wala naman kinalaman dun ang mga iyon. Ano na ba nangyayari sa pinas?

And my sister even told me that when she was interviewed, she was told that the employer don't prefer applicants having a child. How would people who wanted a career change be given a chance if some of the employers have that kind of attitude? It's bullshit!

The Da Vinci Code

I watched The Da Vinci Code last night with Augs, Nick and Jan. I haven't read the book yet and I didn't read any reviews about this movie to avoid spoilers. I'm so excited to watched it because aside from being a fan of mystery/thriller movies, I know that it will be a good one after reading Angels and Daemons.

The movie and the cast are good. I enjoyed watching it. Though, I feel that I need to learn more of Silas (who reminded me of the character from the movie Powder), Bishop Aringarosa, and Sir Leigh Teabing. Now, I have the reason to read the book. (Sometimes, I need to push my self to start reading a book, but once I started it,it would be hard for me to stop especially if it's a good one! hehe)

I noticed that Dan Brown's characters usually has a crippled man and a lady that was adopted and educated by the victim. A father-daughter relationship...hhmm..

I can't understand why the MTRCB (or was it the Manila City Council?) wanted to banned this movie from showing in the Philippines. I am a Catholic but I don't see this movie as disturbing or wrong. It's FICTIONAL! I guess, it depends on how people would interpret it. Let's be open-minded.

Why?!

I am so disappointed with the result of American Idol tonight. Chris was eliminated!! His performance last night is better than Katharine's!

Boracay

Being beach lovers, we always dreamed of going to Boracay but our schedule won't allow it. Not to mention the money! Hehe.. We've heard a lot of good things about this place that's why we have great expectations. I even joked to Jojo that "Ayaw ko na yata, baka pag nakapunta ko, ma-enchant ako sa beach".

So when Augs asked me if we want to come with him to Bora, we didn’t hesitate to say yes. I’m so excited but at the same time, afraid that I might be disappointed because of my great expectations. I’m glad that didn’t happen. But what I feared most came true. The beach captivated me! And it also raised our standard for the beach. Ahh. It’s really a place to relax and have fun.

Imagine this, nice uncrowded beach, crystal clear warm water, powdery white sand that doesn’t get hot, wide shore, awesome sunset, walking barefoot, lying on the sand even at 12 NN, jetskiing, watching shows at night and the best of all -- spending time with your better half!!! That's what I called perfect vacation!

We will definitely be back!
